Remarks of Ambassador Charles L. Glazer
Dell Donation Ceremony

April 2, 2008

As you know, the U.S. economy is in the media a lot these days because of the slowdown we are experiencing.

However, as you have seen in the past, we will pass through this temporary phase and continue to grow our economy, one of the most open economies in the world.

One of the reasons why we have been so successful is because we have such a vibrant private sector.

Our private enterprises have been successful because they are not afraid to compete with and participate in the global economy.

They have repeatedly shown the true entrepreneurial spirit that has made United States business famous throughout the world, and they have brought with them the spirit of community for which the United States is also famous.

I am proud to say that Dell represents these positive attributes and am honored to be here to witness yet another demonstration of Dell’s commitment to the Salvadoran community.

Throughout the world, U.S. companies bring innovation, technology and best practices. And El Salvador is no exception. The concepts of promotion from within the company, employees giving their personal time to community projects and providing tools and opportunities to allow local communities to help themselves are all things that we have seen Dell bring to El Salvador.

Bobbi and her team work closely with the Government of El Salvador, local communities and local institutions like the Sagrera and Gloria de Kriete Foundations.

This latest contribution of $171,000 in cash and computers will help train the new generation of Salvadorans in the important fields of communication, through information technology and English, the worldwide languages of commerce.

El Salvador is a wonderful country, and I am proud that U.S. companies like Dell have played such an active and positive role in its development. Like the United States, El Salvador is a land of opportunity, and Dell is doing its part to help create new opportunities here and around the world.

Congratulations Bobbi, and congratulations Dell employees!

Thank you.
