The Information
Resource Center (IRC) of the American Embassy in San Salvador provides fast, accurate, and objective reference services on a wide range of U.S. subjects to Salvadoran government officials, journalists, non-governmental organizations, universities and businesses.
The IRC is a part of the Embassy’s Public Affairs Office. It offers access to major U.S. data sources, on-line databases, and Internet resources. It also has a reference collection and offers a variety of American magazines and journals. In short, the IRC is the most complete source of information on the U.S. in El Salvador.

| DONATION
TO HOSPITAL GENERAL -ISSS |
December
10, 2007
The
U.S. Embassy donated over 200 books and a
book cart to Hospital General- ISSS (Salvadoran
Institute of Social Security). The donation
included literary works by U.S. authors (such
as Mark Twain and Erenst Hemingway) and
also motivational and self-improvement
titles. The collection will be available
to recovering patients at the Hospital.

IRC
Director and librarians from Salvadoran
Supreme
Court and AIBDA offered a workshop on "how
to organize a basic school library" to
22 schools teachers and librarians from
the Ahuachapán/ Sonsonate area. The event
was held at the Judicial Library in Sonsonate
and was coordianted with Peace Corps volunteers
working in the region.

TO ASAMBLEA LEGISLATIVA |
November 14,
2007
Marjorie
Stern, Cultural Affairs Officer, donated
a specialized collection of books to Salvadoran
Legislature. The donation (consisting of
materials on Foreign Policy, Human Rights,
Administration of Justice, and National Security)
was received by Legislature President Rubén
Orellana and Library Director, Aída Cabrales.

| IRO VISITS EL SALVADOR

Elizabeth
Leonard, Information Regional Officer for
Mexico and Central America recently visited
El Salvador. Among the activities prepared
for her visit, she atttended the opening
of the Itinerant
Library "Bernardo Melero"
in the city of Intipuca in La Union and
visited the National Library. She also
offered a conference on "Web
2.0 and Libraries".

TRAINING IN AHUACHAPAN |

The
IRC Director and librarians from the Salvadoran
Supreme Court of Justice, the National
Legislature, and AIBDA offered a workshop
on "How to organize and manage
a public library" to 19 librarians
from CONCULTURA's Casas de la Cultura and
school teachers
in the department of Ahuachapán.
The event took place at the Judicial library
in Ahuachapan
and was coordinated with volunteers from
the U.S.
Peace Corps
assisting
the
communities
in the region.

DONATION TO NATIONAL LIBRARY |

The
Public Affairs Office recently donated
a set of computers, scanners and printers
to
the
National Library of El Salvador (BINAES).
The equipment, delivered by Marjorie
Stern, Cultural Affairs Officer, and
received by Manlio Argueta, Director of
BINAES, will be used to digitize the library's
Salvadoran rare book and magazine collections,
which soon should be available in
the Internet. Part of the equipment will
also be used in the library's new Internet
Reference and multimedia sections.

Day on July 4,
a day of patriotic celebration and family
events throughout the country. In the words
of Founding Father John Adams, the holiday
would be “the great anniversary
festival. It ought to be commemorated as

to be solemnized with pomp and parade,
with shows, games, sports, guns, bells,
bonfires, and illuminations, from one end
of this continent to the other, from this

The IRC is opened to the public the following days: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30am to 12:00m and 1:00 to 4:00pm.
