INDEPENDENCE DAY/ DíA DE LA INDEPENDENCIA

Declaration of Independence, by John Trumbull, 1817

JULY 4th/ 4 DE JULIO, 2007.-

Americans celebrate the birthday of the United States on Independence Day, also called the Fourth of July. In Philadelphia, Pennsylvannia, on July 2, 1776, the Continental Congress voted to become independent from England. For this reason, John Adams believed that July 2 would be the date of the national holiday. But the written final copy of the Declaration of Independence carried the title "In Congress, July 4, 1776" across the top, because that is the date on which the Congress formally approved the document.

Independence Day is the most important patriotic holiday in the United States and is observed throughout the country as well as in the U.S. territories and among Americans overseas.
