New Container Inspection Facility in El Amatillo

Ambassador H. Douglas Barclay and the Salvadoran Ministers
of Treasury, Guillermo Lopez Suarez, and of Governance
Rene Figueroa inaugurated a new vehicle inspection facility
in El Amatillo, La Unión, on the Salvadoran border
with Honduras.
The Inspection facility is intended to
deter trafficking in narcotics and other contraband.
The facility was built using INL and Government of El Salvador
funds and is part of a larger, regional Containerized
Freight Tracking System that will monitor the movement
of truck-borne containers from Central America to the
U.S.
