New
clinic for the people of Santa Tecla
September 10, 2004

US Ambassador H. Douglas Barclay and Salvadoran
president Elías Antonio Saca participated in a ceremony
to inaugurate the newly reconstructed health clinic Dr. Carlos
Díaz del Pinal in Santa Tecla, which was destroyed
by 2001 earthquakes.
The US Government through USAID provided $731,622 for the
rebuilding of this clinic which will benefit some 200,000
residents of Santa Tecla and other towns nearby. An estimated
500 to 600 patients will receive modern health care daily
in the new facilities.
This clinic is part of a USAID project to rebuild five clinics
in different parts of El Salvador. The other facilities are
in Jayaque, Mejicanos, Santa Catarina Masahuat and Nuevo
Cuscatlán. For this purpose the US Government has
provided more than $2.9 million.
