President Bush wins re-election

On November 3, George W. Bush formally declared victory in the US presidential election after his Democratic challenger, John Kerry, conceded defeat at a large gathering of his supporters in Boston.

On November 3, George W. Bush formally declared victory in the US presidential election after his Democratic challenger, John Kerry, conceded defeat at a large gathering of his supporters in Boston.

With final results from Ohio giving him all of the electoral votes of that State, President Bush received a total of 274 Electoral College votes, four more than needed for victory. Mr Kerry got 252 votes.

Final results are still pending from New Mexico and Iowa, but they will not affect the outcome.
