Secretary Rumsfeld awards six Bronze Stars

U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld awarded the bronze
star to six Salvadoran soldiers who, on March 5, defended
a convoy during an ambush and are credited with saving the
lives of six Coalition Provisional Authority personnel.
The soldiers awarded with the Bronze Star were First Sergeant
Fredy Adolfo Castro Urbina, Sergeant Carlos Enrique Echeverría
Vides, Sergeant Luis Evelio Mejía Cideos, Sergeant
Víctor Manuel González Chanta, Corporal José Daniel
Oporto and Private Juan Francisco Córdova Sánchez.
The decoration was awarded to acknowledge the heroism and
professionalism of the Salvadoran soldiers who on March 5,
2004, saved the lives of six civil American Members of the
Coalition, among them the governor of the Provisional Authority
for the South-central region of Iraq during an ambush on
the road to An Najaf after completing humanitarian operations.
Rumsfeld is on a tour around Central America, visiting El
Salvador, Nicaragua and Panama.
