Thousands of books for Salvadoran children

In a ceremony on December 15, 2004 Ambassador H. Douglas
Barclay handed Salvadoran minister of Education Darlyn Meza,
18,500 books for programs to improve rural education.
This donation, worth more than $230,000, is a joint effort
between the Public Affairs Office of the Embassy of the
United States of America and the International Book Bank
(IBB).
The books will be distributed to 250 rural schools of the
Departments of Cabañas, Chalatenango, Cuscatlán,
La Libertad, San Vicente and Usulután.
The textbooks
cover language, mathematics and science for students
from kindergarten to sixth grade. The donation also includes
atlases,
encyclopedias and teaching materials.
