New City Hall in Izalco

USAID Director Mark Silverman and Salvadoran president
Elías Antonio Saca participated in a ceremony to inaugurate
the newly reconstructed building that houses the municipal
government of Izalco, Sonsonate. The original building was
destroyed in the 2001 earthquakes.
Izalco Mayor Carlos Alexis Portillo, Sonsonate Governor
Roberto Aquino and Fund for Social Development and Investment
president (FISDL) José Antonio Rovira also participated
in the ceremony.
The US Government through USAID provided $236,528 to fund
the rebuilding of the city hall. The work was coordinated
by FISDL and the Municipality of Izalco.
USAID has funded the construction of 3,468 houses in Sonsonate
that have benefited the same number of families in Izalco
and other 12 municipalities in the Department through FONAVIPO,
CARE and Mercy Corps.
