Assistant Secretary Sullivan visits El Salvador

Daniel S. Sullivan, Assistant Secretary for Economic, Energy and Business Affairs made a 2-day visit to El Salvador from February 28 to March 1, 2007
On his first day in El Salvador, The Assistant Secretary visited the Arrocera San Francisco Facilities, a processing plant for rice, beans and other products that are exported to the U.S. At the plant he met with the Salvadoran Minister of Agriculture Mario Salaverria. He later toured the Ingenio La Cabaña facilities and saw the bio gas production process. He then visited Nueva Concepción in Chalatenango where he met businessmen and the mayor of the city. He ended his day visiting a papaya plantation in Chalatenango.
On his second day, Assistant Secretary Sullivan took part in a ceremony presided over by President Saca to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the Central American Free Trade Agreement. Ambassador Glazer also attended the event.
During his visit, the assistant secretary met with Salvadoran government officials and discussed issues of bilateral importance, including trade matters and economic assistance projects that include the MCC. Mr. Sullivan departed March 1st.
The bureau he leads is responsible for overseeing work on international trade and investment policy; international finance, development, and debt policy; economic sanctions and combating terrorist financing; international energy security policy; international telecommunications and transportation policies; and support for U.S. businesses and the private sector overseas.
