USS Pearl Harbor Crew Performs Community Service
Ambassador Glazer visits projects on Perico Island

The Ambassador of the United States, Charles Glazer, made a visit to the
various projects the crew of the US Navy ship USS Pearl Harbor is
carrying out on Perico Island in the Gulf of Fonseca, El Salvador.
During his visit, the Ambassador visited the results of the work carried
out to benefit of the community. The American military repaired the
roof and put rain water canals in the Perico Island community school.
They also painted the walls of the school.
In addition, they built a latrine for the students and roofed the
school's kitchen.
The Ambassador also participated in the distribution of school supplies
and hygiene supplies for the children of the community. Other supplies
donated to the community Thursday included medicine and
toys.
The crew also brought two sewing machines to donate to the community to
move the island toward economic self-sufficiency. The island's citizens
can make articles for sale.
In addition to its community service work, the Pearl Harbor's crew will
participate in a sporting events with a Salvadoran Navy team. Later,
they will have a picnic to cement the camaraderie between the servicemen
and women of both nations.
The Pearl Harbor arrived in El Salvador from Port Quetzal, Guatemala,
and during the next two months will conduct exercises in Central America
and the Caribbean. At the end of August, the ship will participate in a
joint exercise in Panama.
