On August 29, a rainy and overcast day, Ambassador Charles L. Glazer and his wife Janet flew to the community of Samuria in Jucuarán, Usulután, to witness first hand how a team of American military doctors worked hand in hand with Salvadoran counterparts in a MEDRETE.
Residents of this impoverished rural area, located 87 miles east of San Salvador received basic medical assistance, free medication and vitamins.
The team of health providers, two doctors, two nurses, one medical assistant, three paramedics, and three pharmaceutical specialists, are stationed at the Soto Cano base in Honduras.
So far this year the U.S. military has carried out four MEDRETES in Sonsonate, Chalatenango, Santa Ana and Cabañas. More than 31,000 people have benefited from these medical exercises.
