On September 20, U.S. Commercial Service and the Business Foundation for Social Action (FUNDEMAS) launched the Business Ethics Guide to foster and promote the creation of Business Ethics Codes within private Salvadoran companies.
U.S. Embassy Chargé d-affaires Michael Butler participated in the event. “Nowadays ethics are not an option, they are an imperative if you want to compete”, said the Chargé.
The “Business Ethics Guide” was produced by the Corporate Social Responsibility Transparency Committee of FUNDEMAS. Thanks to a U.S. Department of Commerce grant in 2006, this committee has worked in the past year encouraging small, medium and large private companies to develop and implement an Ethics Code within their organizations.
GTZ, a German NGO, also provided assistance by funding the creation of the guide and by bringing Mr. Felipe Arango, Director of “Business Meets Social Development”, to speak at the “Tools for Business Transparency” conference.
