The US Military Group in El Salvador is coordinating a cooperation project to renovate the pier and Synchrolift system (where the ship is lifted out of the water) at La Union Naval Base, in the Eastern part of the country.
Funded through Foreign Military Financing, the project’s cost is over $566,000 in maintenance and repair of the Synchrolift system and $630,000 to renovate the pier. The pier renovation is under supervision of the US Army Corps of Engineers.
The pier renovation and lift capabilities are critical infrastructure to enhance the naval forces' capabilities to support normal operations as well as ability to rapidly respond to illicit traficking of all kinds.
