Sailors and U.S. contractors from Forward Operating Location (FOL) Comalapa along with deployed Sailors from Patrol Squadrons VP-4, VP-46, and Consolidated Maintenance Organization (CMO) recently participated in a Habitat for Humanity Project located near the FOL in a town named Olocuilta. Habitat for Humanity’s site supervisor and mason met over 40 eager Sailors ready to help build three new homes for three worthy families.
Habitat provided the oversight, supervision and instructions to Sailors as well as tools, safety gear, and building materials. The FOL Sailors gave their one day off for the week to volunteer for this worthy cause. They met the challenge with lots of sweat and hard work to help bring this project closer to completion.
During the build, Ambassador Charles Glazer paid a visit to the sailors, to show support to the U.S. military and express his appreciation for their hard work in this worthy project which was a reflection of their professionalism and giving spirit to the local community they live in.
As rainy season approaches, volunteers from the FOL contributed their time and energy to help provide shelter for needy families. “I really enjoyed spending my off time helping out people who need shelter and it made me feel proud to see the joy in their faces as they saw the foundation of their new house,” said IT2 Angel Borges who is Naval Reservist from a Reserve Unit based in Orlando, Florida
FOL Comalapa’s primary mission is to provide logistical support to aerial counter-drug aircraft and crew from U.S. military and government law enforcement organizations promoting Theater Security Cooperation (TSC) like COMREL events in the El Salvador area.
Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry which seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world. Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need. Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner (partner) families.
