U.S. Ambassador Charles L. Glazer joined Salvadoran President Elias Antonio Saca and Minister of Economy Yolanda de Gavidia in a ceremony to mark the second anniversary of the Central American Free Trade Agreement, known as CAFTA-DR. Ambassador Glazer participated in an open dialogue with four business representatives that have benefited from CAFTA-DR.
The four producers, who represent micro, small, medium and large business enterprises, explained how their products - pottery, Panela Sugar, textiles and wire harnesses respectively- have dramatically increased their shipments to the U.S. market since the implementation of CAFTA in El Salvador.
“Agreements like CAFTA-DR help Salvadorans compete by lowering trade barriers and providing clear and fair rules so that everyone can participate and benefit from trade. We need to make sure that everyone follows those rules”, Ambassador Glazer said.
He concluded by saying that CAFTA-DR has a bright future, and as each anniversary passes, the work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit of the Salvadoran people will produce more and more successes such as the ones here today.
