International Anti-Gang Conference Announced

Minister of Public Security and Justice Rene Figueroa, National Civilian Police Director Francisco Rovira, and US Embassy Legal Attaché Leo Navarrete announced the 4th International Anti Gang Conference. In a press conference held April 1, Minister of Public Security and Justice Rene Figueroa, National Civilian Police Director Francisco Rovira and US Embassy Legal Attache Leo Navarrete announced that the Fourth International Anti-Gang Conference will take place in Sonsonate, El Salvador April 8-10.

The Conference will create a unique opportunity for participants to exchange ideas and experiences related to efforts in the United Stated, Mexico and Central America to address the growing problem of gangs. The Conference has been named “Information Exchange: Our Challenge.”

More than 200 participants from the US, El Salvador, Mexico and other Central American countries are expected to participate. The Conference has been organized by the Salvadoran Government with the assistance of the US Government through the FBI. Some of the international participants are receiving US funding to attend the Conference.

Previous conferences have resulted in the creation of the Transnational Gang Unit in San Salvador and exchange programs between the Salvadoran National Police and its counterparts in different cities around the United States .
