On April 8, 2008, during the inauguration of the 4th Regional Anti-Gang Conference, Ambassador Charles L. Glazer called on Salvadoran politicians to come together to pass four key pieces of legislation, including a new criminal procedure code, an asset forfeiture law, a wire-tapping law and a new extradition treaty with the US.
“What I think that all the politicians will find is that those that join together to put the public interest above politics will be successful in the coming [2009] elections,” said Ambassador Glazer.
In his speech at the Anti-Gang Conference, the US Ambassador reiterated what he said one month ago in an address to the American Chamber of Commerce: Salvadoran authorities need new, more effective tools to face down the criminal threat in El Salvador.
The 4th Anti Gang-Conference is taking place from April 8-10 at Salvadoran resort with more than 200 attendees from law enforcement agencies in the US, Mexico and Central America.
