US Government Captures Salvadorans Wanted for Crimes in
El Salvador

The US Government returned three Salvadorans wanted by Salvadoran authorities for crimes committed in El Salvador to El Salvador last week.
These arrests and deportations were made possible by the ongoing cooperation and exchange of information between the two countries and their law enforcement agencies. The Department of Homeland Security, in collaboration with the International Police (INTERPOL) and the new Transnational Anti-Gang Center (TAG), located and arrested the three criminals, who are on INTERPOL’s Most Wanted list for crimes they committed in El Salvador before they fled to the US. Once they arrived in country, the men were arrested by Salvadoran police officers from INTERPOL.
Since January of this year, five Salvadorans with arrest warrants issued by Salvadoran courts have been deported from the U.S. to El Salvador to face justice. The deportations of criminals is not, however, a one way street. Six American citizens arrested in El Salvador have been deported to the United States to be tried for crimes committed in the US.
The US remains committed to returning Salvadoran fugitives to their home country to face justice, and is continuing its efforts to ramp up cooperation with Salvadoran authorities to reduce crime in El Salvador.
