Ambassador Glazer Meets with Salvadoran Troops in Iraq
May 16, 2008

*****

Ambassador Charles L. Glazer and Salvadoran Minister of Defense General Jorge Alberto Molina Contreras met with the Salvadoran soldiers from the tenth contingent of the Cuscatlan Battalion stationed in the city of Al Kut, in Iraq on May 14 and 15.

Ambassador Glazer and Minister Molina were accompanied by Salvadoran Army Chief of Staff General Eduardo Ernesto Mendoza Morales and Army Archbishop Fabio Colindres Abarca.
In addition to spending time with the contingent, during their tight schedule for the trip, the Ambassador and Salvadoran authorities met with representatives of the Iraqi Supreme Court and discussed the Salvadorans’ contribution to the reconstruction of Iraq.

“As a result of your brave work, you have won the admiration and respect of the officers and soldiers of the Coalition Forces, and the gratitude of the Iraqi people,” Ambassador Glazer told the assembled troops.  He was awarded a plaque that names him an honorary member of the Cuscatlan Battalion.

Ten contingents of Salvadoran soldiers over the past five years have performed humanitarian and reconstruction activities in Iraq as a testimony to El Salvador’s commitment to helping the Iraqi people establish a stable democracy in their country.
