Scholarship Grantees make Courtesy Call at Ambassador’s Residence
June 20, 2008

*****

On June 11, Mrs. Janet Glazer invited a group of exchange program participants who will be departing soon to different US universities to her residence. The purpose of the invitation was to learn about their academic plans and to highlight the students’ commitment to returning to El Salvador to serve their communities.

Most of the participants are 2008 UGRAD program grantees. Sponsored by the Department of State, this exchange program for excelling undergraduate students awarded seven one-semester scholarships and four one-year scholarships to institutions of higher learning. The program awards a full scholarship which covers tuition and living and transportation expenses to provide students from underprivileged sectors of society with the opportunity to  participate in an important cultural and academic exchange and study experience in the United States.

Also among the participants were four students from Sonsonate, Chalatenango and San Vicente and the Soyapango area of San Salvador, who are part of the US Institute for Student Leaders which grants a five week scholarship at the University of Arizona to develop leadership skills and to learn about US culture.
