July 10, 2008

*****

US Ambassador Charles L. Glazer inaugurated the Tenth National Conference for English Teachers held at the Bi-national Center, Centro Cultural Salvadoreño Americano (CCSA) in a brief ceremony.

The conference, held every other year in San Salvador, is an opportunity for English teachers from around the country to exchange ideas, experiences and techniques on how to improve their English teaching skills. In addition to Ambassador Glazer, Mrs. Erlinda de Moras, Executive Director of CCSA and Quentin Farrand, President of the Board of Directors participated.

Ambassador Glazer highlighted in his remarks that, according to research, “…there are more than a billion people currently learning English around the world.”  The diplomat also noted that” …English is becoming the most important language in many fields of our daily life.  .”

The US Embassy, through its Public Affairs Office, helped bring three English teaching specialists to the event: two from the University of Baltimore and one from the University of Oregon. Approximately 300 English teachers from throughout El Salvador and from neighboring countries are participating in this conference.
