On July 14, Assistant Secretary for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Julie L. Myers and Ambassador Charles L. Glazer offered a roundtable with several Salvadoran journalists.
The meeting allowed reporters to learn more about how illegal immigration affects the United States, as well as the processes and safeguards used when returning Salvadorans who were residing illegally in the US.
Assistant Secretary Myers met with Minister of Foreign Affairs Argueta de Barillas and Attorney General Felix Garrid Safie.
In her role as Assistant Secretary for ICE, Ms. Myers leads the largest investigative component of the Department of Homeland Security and the second largest investigative agency in the federal government, with more than 15,000 employees, including 6,000 investigators, and an annual budget of more than $4 billion. ICE is comprised of four integrated divisions that form a 21st century law enforcement agency with broad responsibilities for a number of key homeland security priorities.
